Create SKUs and import your catalog

Add products and brands, map CSV columns and handle existing SKU codes.

Before you start

Use a CSV with a header row. Required fields are sku_code and product_name; optional fields are category, brand and active.

Access needed

Owners, admins and editors can create and import SKUs.

Steps

  1. In SKUs, use Add SKU for an individual product. Enter its SKU code and product name; choose or create a brand as available in the form.
  2. For a spreadsheet, open Import SKUs and choose Choose CSV file, or Or paste text followed by Use pasted rows.
  3. In Map columns & review, map your columns to SKU code, Product name and any optional fields. Ignore unrelated columns.
  4. Choose Update the existing SKU or Skip the row for codes already in your catalog.
  5. Inspect row errors and the valid-row count before choosing Import rows. Correct your source file and start again if necessary.
  6. Open the imported SKU to add packaging components. Catalog import does not create packaging weights or state sales.

Expected result

Valid rows create or update catalog records. Brand names in the file can create brands. Updating existing SKUs can overwrite optional metadata.

Common problems

  • Keep SKU codes consistent, including case, across catalog and sales files.
  • An unmapped Active field defaults to active. Blank brand or category values can clear those values when updating.
  • Imports write in batches, not as one all-or-nothing transaction. If a write fails, inspect existing records before retrying.
